About twenty five years ago I packed up my 4x5 view camera equipment and film backs loaded with BW film. I also had my 35mm camera system for color shots. Then I drove from Scottsdale, Arizona to the Flagstaff area on business. However, I spent a night in Sedona. Among the most gorgeous red colored geography I’ve ever witnessed. Not having planned accommodations well I ended up driving off road a bit and stayed in my truck for the night. I got my shots of the very boring sunset from the bush. But there was a silhouette of a rocky horizon line. With the wide angle lens I could include a plant in the foreground that was a great bunch of brilliant grays. This painting is the result of my love for the old hand colored black and white prints I saw as a kid. It’s interesting to me that I painted it literally as far as focus. The painting is about 30” x 40”. One of the many reasons I love rock climbing, and canyoneering is teamwork. Being around like minds people and sharing a love for nature and a sense of adventure makes it fun.
For every trip, the leader has to plan how many people going, how much gear is needed, and how long it takes to finish safely. Adding a strong and knowledgeable member to the team would make it fast and efficient. Adding an inexperienced member could mean more responsibility to the leader, more gear and weight to carry but most of all...More time!
A time that could make the difference between having a celebration dinner after the trip or spending the evening rappel in the dark, or sleeping in the canyon. So it is important to check with the leader if he/she has enough gear, time and is willing to take more responsibility before adding a new member to the team.

Yesterday was a wonderful time spent in Sedona, Arizona! My son, who is 8, snapped some amazing photos - so beautiful! Sedona is truly spectacular with its incredible rocky formations. We took a memorable hike up Airport Mesa and it was totally worth the climb! The scenery up there has to be seen to be believed!
